Gas Vessel Documentation, Tagging, and Labeling

A system should be established for identification of hydrogen pressure vessels to promote safety and reduce the possibility of confusion, especially during an emergency situation. Signs that say "No Smoking" and "No Open Flames" should be posted.

Each pressure vessel should be marked to show that it is certified for use, and any special instructions for safe operation should be indicated. Vessels should also be marked per the appropriate code (i.e., ASME, NFPA, or DOT). ASME nameplates are permanent fixtures on pressure vessels. They must be stamped into the vessel and/or fastened permanently to the vessel.

Documentation for each vessel should include a description of the vessel, a list of available drawings or other documents, the most recent inspection results, and the responsible person's name.
