Training
- Hydrogen safety training should be provided to all employees who handle hydrogen or related materials.
- Appropriate training plans should be developed after identifying potential job hazards
- Periodic retraining should be provided
- Additional training is needed whenever new or modified equipment or information is introduced
- All staff who will work with hydrogen should be adequately trained on hydrogen safety procedures and should understand:
- Hydrogen properties and behavior
- Safety requirements for working with or around hydrogen
- Hydrogen equipment inspection, operation, and maintenance
- Procedures for handling hydrogen leaks and spills, and the appropriate actions to be taken in case of fire
- Emergency notification and evacuation/response policies and procedures
- Ongoing reminders of critical information can be communicated in the workplace using a variety of methods including periodic publishing of the details of hydrogen systems, labels and signs, and safety bulletins.
- All staff should be trained and encouraged to report any safety concerns they observe with any equipment or system in their workplace.
