• The safest approach to flammable gas handling is "keeping it in the pipe". Hydrogen is odorless, therefore, some installations utilize gas detection to ensure safe operation. Other installations rely on electronic leak monitoring in place of detection.
  • Indoor piping pressure should be monitored continuously when the system is idle and a means of excess flow protection should be provided. Examples can include excess flow valves, flow-limiting orifices, control systems to limit the total flow, or combinations thereof.
  • When used, hydrogen gas and flame detectors should be connected to audible and visible alarms. Detectors may also be used to activate the isolation or source valve at the hydrogen supply. Hose break detection should be provided during each fill.
