Abstract
Hydrogen is highly flammable in gas form and a health hazard if liquefied. Proper design and installation of a venting system is essential to control hydrogen flow and prevent explosions. Unless hydrogen goes through a combustion process, such as in a thermal furnace, and is converted to relatively harmless water vapor, it ordinarily must be wasted through a venting system to the atmosphere. Such a venting system, which is the subject of this article, must be properly designed and installed to control hydrogen flow and prevent explosion conditions.
