For different applications it is necessary to perform a controlled oxidation of hydrogen. Apart from the safety-relevant aspect, it can be also necessary to utilize as much heat as possible. The experimental results showed that hot spots and therefore thermal stress can be avoided with this new reactor concept. In addition, it has been demonstrated, that a cold-start of such microstructured components is quick and stationary conditions are reached within less than 10 minutes in dependence of the reaction parameters. Conversions of hydrogen were in the range of 98 % when stoechiometric conditions or oxygen excess were applied. The temperature gradients and heat losses in the stationary mode of the operation of such catalytic burners were depending on the flow directions and parameters.
